Feasibility study of a forest conservation and reforestation project in Malaysia

Client:

Jauhar Green

[project entity repreenting a royal family in Malaysia]

Role:

Consultant

Overview:

Forests, peatland and mangroves in Malaysia continue to reduce in size due to unrelenting pressures from palm oil and other industries, threatening the country's biodiversity and contributing to large quantities of carbon emissions through reduction of carbon stocks.

The purpose of this engagement was to:

  • identify areas with high carbon stocks that continue to experience land clearing,
  • define an approach for the restoration and reforestation of fallow land, and
  • develop a business case based on the projected carbon credit issuance resulting from the proposed conservation and reforestation efforts.
